Advanced Musical Theater
Grades 7-12
In its second year, Advanced Musical Theater is offered to students interested in honing their musical theater skills and stepping up to the next level of their training. Professional artists will work with you on vocal and dance technique as well as committing to character choices; all the things that make musical theater great! This longer class period ensures that students have a chance to work as an ensemble as well as receive weekly individual feedback. This intensive will break down the elements of singing and dancing and then put them all back together, ensuring that the students have a firm understanding of the techniques so that the performance can really shine through.

Organized Chaos
Grades 7-12
Organized Chaos, now in its eighth year, works in multiple teams on advanced Improvisation. Students will work together for a full year on spontaneity, integrity, and leadership. Improv is an art form that requires community, commitment and communication. This class will refine your improvisation skills and exercise your creativity all year long.

Touring Company
Grades 5-12
Entering its third year, the Touring Company continues to spread the First Stage mission of Transforming Lives through Theater across the city. These musical ambassadors will rehearse and produce an original 30-minute show to take to community events and schools from October through May. Members will spend a two-week rehearsal process in September to focus on the vocal and dance skills needed to tell our story of encouragement, commitment, and creativity. Saturday classes take place throughout the year to continue training. Performances in a wide variety of venues will ensure that each student learns to be versatile, reliable, and responsible.

Word Play Ensemble
Grades 5-12
The Word Play Ensemble includes students whose love for theater and acting walk hand in hand with their love for writing. Throughout the year students build ensemble on their feet and on the page with the goal of writing and staging an original play. Students will explore advanced playwriting forms through monologue and scene work. Ensemble members learn the value of full participation, discipline and, most importantly, collaboration.

Young Company
Grades 9-12
For students in high school who want to take their work to the next level, First Stage offers the Young Company. Meeting every Saturday, the Young Company is the advanced, college-level actor training program at First Stage Theater Academy. Accepted students will complete course work in Voice, Movement, Viewpoints, Dance and Shakespeare as well as electives ranging from Auditioning to Stage Combat to Dialects. In addition the Young Company hosts master classes with guest artists from across the nation. The Young Company also takes part in productions throughout the season.
